Where Tony & Rhonda's adventures and hijinks become public!

Earthquake! 6.0.

At first I thought I was just dizzy. I turned away from the computer and closed my eyes. But when the windows started banging and the door started swaying and the cat started howling I got the idea. It lasted long enough for me to grab the phone, sit in the doorway and call Tony.

Why do these things always happen when he's out of town?

We are so lucky.

On Saturday, we walked to Mom & Stephen's house. 12 miles. We all hung out, they took us out for matzo ball soup and stuffed mushrooms, then taxied us home.

On Sunday, we walked to Steve & Stephanie's house. 9 miles. We all hung out, they bbq'd a pile of chicken thighs, then taxied us home.

The fundraising isn't the hardest part of preparing for the 3-Day. Neither is all the training. But if we didn't have such awesome support, I don't know how we could find that inner resolve to get up and strap on those packs morning after morning after morning.

Tony is back in LA! And he will be again next week. Fortunately, yesterday's voice recording went just fine, so we'll hopefully have no more late-night disasters like last Thursday. This is the latest in the product cycle that he's ever had to do the voices, so he can't afford another disaster at this point. CSI:Miami PC is due out in November!

I'm finishing things up, also. A few more paragraphs in the Techniques chapter, a little mop-up here and there, and the climbing book goes off to SuperAgent ... yay!

We're going to Disneyland. Or at least, we should be.

Tony ended up stuck in LA overnight on Thursday, due to a voice recording session that went reallllly long.

Then we went away for the weekend. Sort of. We spent a night over the hill at Half Moon Bay, did a ten mile walk, spent a night at the Marriot just down the street from our house, did another ten mile walk, and then came home. We were hiding from the cat. We need to see how he'll do getting his insulin from the cat sitter instead of us, so we know if it's okay to start going on real vacations again. (The jury is still out.)

Tony is going nuts trying to line up all the CSI:Miami actors for their voice recording sessions. They all have to be done in the next few weeks so he'll be spending a lot of time flying to LA and back, usually with no more than a day (or a few hours) notice.

Meanwhile, I'm going nuts with the predictions of big storms next month. October. When we're walking the 3-Day. So I just bought us two pairs of SLOGGERS and am hoping we won't have to use them.

Bleh. It's finally a reasonable temperature outside and neither of us feels well enough to go train. Ah well, there's always next weekend.

For now we're perfectly happy to huddle in bed and binge on old episodes of Northern Exposure. We've watched seven episodes since yesterday and have only one left before we finish the first 'season' DVD set.

98 degrees ... yesterday ... muscles hurt ... aaaauugh

September 5, 2004

VERY tired. Big workout Friday, lots of tough climbing Saturday, and today we somehow decided it would be a good idea to hike two miles down a steep hill, then turn around and hike back up. THEN walked all over an art fair.

Now smeared with dirt but overall quite pleased with ourselves.

But... we still have to have a 12-mile training walk tomorrow. Only six weeks until the 3-Day! So we probably won't be too happy in the morning.

Very distracted today, watching Hurricane Francis sneak up on my grandmother. (And my grandpa in Boca, and several other relatives.) The hurricane is at full force but is moving toward Florida at only 10mph, which means all hell will break loose when it hits. She lives in one of those giant condo towers and doesn't have to evacuate, but I can't convince her to stock more than two cans of soup.

Equally exciting, my mom is supposed to fly to Florida on Saturday morning. Not sure if the airports will be open by then or not. I'm telling her to bring a few extra cans of soup, just in case.
