I wanted to mention a few VERY COOL games some of my good friends and acquaintances have been working on. I dig these, so maybe you will too.
First, my good buddy Shane Lacey Hensley at Pinnacle Entertainment has created the Savage Worlds live RPG ruleset, which drives his relaunching of one of the coolest RPGs I've ever played, Deadlands, and a lot of other RPG worlds that run off of these clever and simple rules. I had great time last night playing a quick "Savage Warhammer 40K" game Shane DMed "on-the-fly", which was infinatly more entertaining and much quicker then the standard Warhammer 40K rules.
Second, if you love the CCG-style gaming of Magic the Gathering but on computer, with a sci-fi flavor, and adding a strategic map and allowing SOLO or mutiplayer scenarios, go to Star Chamber immediatly! My good friend Paul Dennon came up with this one, and its awesome! Also, all the cards are illustrated by another good friend of mine, Lee Moyer!
Finally, a board game I've played many a time has been made into a computer game. It's called Down in Flames, and is a super simple WWII fighter/bomber game, designed by Dan Verssen, a very cool designer who I have admired over the year for his simplicty/accurateness in design. Again, I highly recommend you at least check out his demo, and his other games!
